Designer Fashion Labels

UK Fashion designers traditionally head off in the spring/summer months to show their collections at the extravaganzas in Milan, but Paris and London see their share of catwalks too as the shows continue throughout the new season each year.

It's about time that fashion designers took a realistic approach to clothing, not only designing it to fit the average person, but seeing to it that the average person models them. Perfect bodies need to make way for a new direction in fashion and the public is ready.

Protecting ones designs in the fashion industry is of key importance to all designers. So why does it look as though different designers come out with similar clothing? The difference is the designer's name. A beach suit from a designer name is much pricier than a swimsuit from an off-the-rail store, even if the suits are made from similar fabric and seem to have the same design.

It's all about getting your name out there as a designer and seeing your clothing on the runways, even if the runway fashions aren't the kind of clothes that the typical buyer will purchase. The fashions seen on runways are all about the name brand, and getting your line up there in Milan, Paris, or New York is the goal of every new designer. This is called breaking into the market.

Registering designs with an agent in the UK and other parts of Europe is the first item of business when a designer comes out with a new style. This must be done before you even show your designs to a potential buyer. The registered design goes with the agent to the buyers market and if one is interested, they make an offer and if it is accepted, the buyer contacts the manufacturer and the design is a go. Big name designers such as Animal and Neiman Marcus have standing agents and often go straight through to the manufacturer, and then onto the runways.

Counterfeiting clothing and accessories is also big business. Counterfeiters pay off insiders to learn what styles and designs are hitting the stores and rush to copy these to sell at discount prices to the buyer who doesn't know any better. Designers now often have secret insignia on their items to ensure that they are not counterfeited, or to prove that an item has been.
